“Well, how good is this…”; “You can’t buy memories…”; “It’s about the journey not the destination…”
– I think these three phrases articulate the feelings of the Bondi Stan Mac team members and supporters who were present for the annual Stan McDonald relay against North Bondi. We were successful this year in winning the Stan Mac and breaking a 19 year drought in the event.
I would like to congratulate all the team members for their contribution on the day, each team member giving 110%. With only around twenty seconds separating the teams at the finish every second counted and each swimmer maintained an attitude that one second would make a difference throughout the event. One of the most important aspects that we have been working on over the last few years, as we have edged closer to victory, is the depth of our team and for the first time in many years I believe we got it right.
Thank you to the supporters who came down on the day to cheer the team on, it certainly made a difference to our performance. Also a big thank you to my fellow Stan Mac organising team of Andrew Hoggett, John Greaves and Andrew Hill, your support in the lead up and on the day was incredible.
The challenge for us now is to maintain the momentum in 2011 and retain the Stan Mac at Bondi. There is one certainty and that is North Bondi will put on the line the best team they have in many years. I am sure I speak for all the team members from this year and potential team members in 2011 when I say “bring it on!”
