Surf race 8th April
The Bondi Surf Race Report
Bondi Surf Race Report
Week 29 – 8th April 2018
Another week in the bleachers, with the sun burning away, small seas & a long bank. It was great watching & enjoying those out in the water doing their best.
The buoys were again set a good distance & most swimmers were happy with same.
The Jack Cox is the one race everyone wants to win & Dori is making an art form out of doing well in the three races. The small numbers were disappointing; however, this did not detract from the completion with B Grade being especially close.
If I was a betting man, I would have made a fortune on this race, although those in the know would have been backing her all the way. Dori gave a masterful exhibition of racing, which was assisted by the good conditions around the course. To Pep (who we do not see often enough) & Sam great efforts, but when Dori’s on fire, it always going to be hard to catch her.
A week off is a long time, but when you were chasing Easter eggs, you can only come back bigger & better. Take a bow John, you have come through after a long hiatus from the winner podium. As a youngster he excelled at rugby, running & R&R. This morning he caught not one but two waves to head up the beach, closely followed by Peter, who has had another good season both in the surf & pool, where he excels on Saturday mornings with Bondi ASC from medley to 400 metres & anything in between, as does Patti was on his heels but could not make up the lead she gave them.
Anthony was back swimming against himself again. We have heaps of Cadets but, where are they? We, as a Club, need to get them into our culture or eventually we will lose them.
Not able to be held due to a short age of tubes.
Again, come on let’s all get down whilst this wonderful weather lasts & remember we only have two races to go. Then I have to sit down & do the report on the season, which I’m told is already overdue. It will start with a big thanks to you, the members who come down & to Raewyn who has done far more than me & kept it all together with Tony.
September we start it all over again, with the first week of patrols.
Don’t missing anything.
BONDI AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB – Is always looking for new members, irrespective of their ability. We can promise two things; you will improve over the season & have a lot of fun doing so. If interested, please come down by 9.15 Saturday morning & see what it is like. They also have “learn to swim classes” for any member who cannot swim & this has been extended to adults. Should you want more info, please speak to me, Raewyn or Sandra Hallam, at the races or whenever.
A big thanks to THE BLUE ROOM for their outstanding support, over the last ten weeks.
