Intro & Welcome
Our lifesavers patrol Australia’s busiest beach and every summer. We perform more preventatives and rescues than any other club in Australia. Our club alone performs approximately 10% of the NSW total. A fortnight ago our lifesavers on Meagher patrol performed multiple rounds of CPR and used the defib for two rounds on a member of the public. The patient was conscious on the way to the hospital due to the extraordinary efforts of the patrol members. It is often said that on a major rescue such as this, it isn’t just one person that stands out. The patrol worked as a team to ensure a life was saved.
Please ensure if you are on patrol that you keep your skills up to date and fresh. Speak to your patrol captain if you need to refresh your skills or join a higher awards course such as Advanced Resuscitation or First Aid.
Our club competitors are currently in Perth at the national titles. Our masters competitors have once again won the national point score with a tremendous team effort. Our open competitors are currently competing, with already two individual gold medals. Good luck for the rest of the competition!
The end of April is the end of our club’s financial year. You will be receiving your renewal form for the club in the next 3-4 weeks. This year, we have increased fees slightly, but also implemented Early Bird pricing. If you renew early, you won’t see an increase in your membership fee.
Presentation Night is on 12 May at Easts Leagues. More than half of the tables have already sold. The night will have a sit down dinner and live music to ensure you enjoy the night after the major awards.
Lastly, this Sunday we will be having our Anzac Day ceremony in the Hall. Please come down; we will be starting at 10:30am. (The weekly surf race will be held directly after.)
See you on the beach!

76th Annual Stan & Basil McDonald Relay
On Sunday 25 March, Bondi and North Bondi Surf Clubs lined up their 20 best swimmers in the head-to-head showdown known as the Stan Mac Relay. After 76 years, the magic of this events still shines.
North Bondi hosted the event this year. The 400 metre course was set out in front of their club. There were a few waves early, but as the race went on, the surf offered little assistance. It started out as a close race that was exciting to watch. Simon Nothing took the lead on the third leg and his brother Alex regained the lead on the sixth leg. But the depth of North Bondi’s team got the better of us in the end.
Congratulations to Adam Nezval for his 34th Stan Mac swim. Thank you to all our supporters and those who helped out on the day.
The 2018 team:

Week 30 – 15 April
Back on the sand and doing the patrol with Donna was great, except for the wind and sand that was all invasive. The surf was small and a little cooler than expect, but nice. The sun was out and all in all a great morning.
Donna’s patrol got the buoys out without a hitch and provided a couple of paddles for extra safety. I still cannot go in the water, so they were not really necessary, but most welcome.
The countdown to the end of the season is two to go. So don’t miss out. Get down for those last races. September we start it all over again, with the first week of patrols.
Don’t missing anything.
Charles, off at 1.30, did the hard slog and caught the front runners in the shallows to beat youngsters Susan and Bruce up the beach. For a 300 metre race it was over very quickly, with no back stragglers and a good, well-placed group as they headed for the break.
An even closer race (except for the newbie, who should have gone off as back marker in A Grade. He just might next week and even then, going on his initial performance, will be competitive). The Winner was Stu, going off at 2.40, which was back marker material. Vera kept him honest, as did the Hawker Lady, who brought her sister down to cheer & it paid dividends for Siobhan with third.
Anthony was back swimming against himself again. Where are the Cadets & where is their mentor?
Not held due to a shortage of tubes.
Did you check the airway?
Proper airway management can mean a difference between the life and death of a patient.
Join us on 9 May at 7:00pm
to hear Jessica Smith
Specialist Anaesthetist at Prince of Wales and Children’s Hospitals
and Patient Retrieval Specialist with Careflight
She will discuss and demonstrate airway management, the options that the Ambulance or Helicopter bring with them.
This is the second in our series of guest speaker events and is free to all.
