The Bondi Surfer

18 May 2018 – Edition 65

Intro & Welcome

On Saturday 12 May, we held our Club’s Presentation Night. We did it differently to what we have in past years by combining it with a dinner and then band at Easts Leagues. From all of the feedback I received, the night was a success – with 230 tickets sold. Thank you to James Rogers and Helen Jenkinson, who did most of the organising for the night.

Congratulations to everyone that received an award on the night — a special mention of Brent Jackson for the President’s Award. Brent not only patrolled all year; he ran the Education section, with significant increases in each award, helped on the Board and also organised one of the biggest events of the Season – The Black Sunday Re-enactment.

Everyone would have received renewal information by now, we have implemented Early Bird pricing, which will mean you won’t see an increase in your member fee if you pay on time. There won’t be any exceptions for members who pay after the deadline date. Members who paid 2 years ahead and completed the Bronze in season 2017/18 still need to renew online with the declarations – only pay for anything extra you add to your membership fee.

Thank you all for the last Season. There are many people already working behind the scenes on making next year even better. If you have some time and expertise in an area, then please contact myself or the Office. We especially need more people on the fundraising and marketing/sponsorship side.

Any ideas for improvement or feedback on last Season are always welcome.

See you on the beach!

Jacob Waks

2018/19 Season Membership Fees

Thank you for your support for the past Season.

We have had a successful Season with no lives lost and a record number of preventative actions on the beach. Our education awards have increased; surf sports results improved; and our member retention is stronger than previous years.

Membership fees are due now and should be paid before our AGM on Sunday, 22 July 2018. Please note, any memberships not renewed by 31 July 2018 will be archived and access tags deactivated.

This Season, fees for 2018/19 have been reviewed, allowing for reduced gym fees for active members. There has been a slight incremental increase for SLSA membership. To alleviate some of the burden, the Club will subsidise part of the cost, provided you renew your membership on or before 15 July 2018. Please click on the button below for details of our Early Bird pricing and a guide to the renewal process.

Patrols – Season End

Our thanks to Bondi’s Patrol teams for another season saving lives on the nation’s busiest beach. Time for a well earned rest.
See you next Season.

Marketing & Sponsorship

We are pleased to announce that Projex Group – Australia’s leading waterproofing and engineering products provider – has committed to another year of sponsorship. Our partnership goes back to 2006.

Throughout the years, the generous donations of Projex Group, and its subsidiary company Wolfin, have helped with the purchase of new training and lifesaving equipment as well as supporting our Nippers program.

We are grateful for Projex’s support and encourage members to consider supporting them with future custom.

Gold Medallion – April Assessment

6 newly qualified Goldies had a very tough assessment under harsh conditions at North Cronulla. The beach was closed, but our top lifesavers went out and all passed. It was an incredible end to months of training and awards to get there.

Congratulations to Sarah Forde, Neil Collins, Sam Wolfe, Dori Miller, James Burnard and Nicola Watkins.

ARTC – May

Last week saw the final ART course. All students passed, and passed well. It was a strong group.

Congratulations to the trainers/assessors Shauna De Launey and Charles Cotton, especially the lead trainers, Belinda Hartman and Mark Fabik. And to the assistant trainers John Macleay, Michael Delaney and Adam Nicholson.
