|The Bondi Surfer – Bondi Surf Life Saving Club Your update on all things Bondi Surf Club!
The Bondi Surfer No. 67
15 June 2018
Intro & Welcome
Bondi Surf Club is delighted and proud to announce that our esteemed member, Andrew Winters, has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Day Honours List 2018. Andy’s award means that Bondi Surf Club can now boast four OAMs in its membership. Andy joins ranks with Mr Brian Tyquin OAM, Mr John Greig OAM and Mr Leonard Harris OAM.
Andy has made an extraordinary contribution to lifesaving, as a competitor, lifesaver and leader since joining Bondi in the 1974/75 Season. He is one of Australia’s quiet achievers and well deserving of recognition. Congratulations Andy!
There was a great vibe in the Club on Sunday morning. Around 80 members and visitors congregated in the main hall for what was an immensely entertaining and informative presentation from Iron man legend, Guy Leech.
Finally, a quick reminder that there are only a few weeks remaining for the early bird offer on your membership fees. Full price fees will be in place after 15th July. Your members parking stickers have also now expired. Replacements are available for all 2018/19 registered members.
Wishing all our members a safe, warm and peaceful off-season.

Andy Winters Birthday Honours
Andy "Winkie" Winters was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia for his outstanding service to lifesaving. His service includes two terms as Club President (1981-84 and 2009-15), three years as Club Treasurer and a long association as a competitor and supporter of the surf boat section, winning World and Australian titles.
He now lives at Mollymook on the South Coast and was honoured last November by the Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club. Our new surfboat was christened the Andrew “Winkie” Winters/Dial Before You Dig boat in recognition of his years of service as a rower, sweep and Club administrator. Andy is a life member of the Club.

Sunday, the Club was treated to an entertaining presentation by Guy Leech. Guy was inspirational. His account of his career covered how – as a relatively unknown 19 year old athlete – he took the Ironman world by surprise by winning the first Coolangatta Gold. This is one of the most challenging endurance races in surf sports. Thanks to Robert Chapman, the BOSS team and Harris Farm Markets for putting together a wonderful Club event.
23 Junior members from Tweed Heads Surf Club visited on Sunday and were also present to enjoy the Guy Leech talk. The cadets were given a tour of the surf club and met up with the Bondi Lifeguards. Thanks to Brent, Pep and the BOSS team for extending such a warm Bondi welcome.
2018/19 Season Membership Fees
Membership fees are due and should be paid before our AGM on Sunday, 22 July 2018. Please note, any memberships not renewed by 31 July 2018 will be archived and access tags deactivated.
This Season, fees for 2018/19 have been reviewed, allowing for reduced gym fees for active members. There has been a slight incremental increase for SLSA membership. To alleviate some of the burden, the Club will subsidise part of the cost, provided you renew your membership on or before 15 July 2018. Please click on the button below for details of our Early Bird pricing and a guide to the renewal process.

Office Staff Changes
There will be a number of new faces around the clubhouse in the coming months.
Louise Santos has resigned from her part time paid administration position in the senior office to focus on her professional career as a physiotherapist. Louise, thank you for your positive attitude and hard work over the years and in particular for the support and inside knowledge you have provided over the past 12 months.
The good news is the Club will continue to benefit from Louise’s participation in a volunteer role. We look forward to working with her in this capacity for many more years.
Netra Maharaj joined us in November last year. She quickly became an integral part of the Nippers program and a welcome addition to the administration team as a whole. Netra has a wealth of attributes which will most certainly be missed here at Bondi. As with Louise, Netra will still be around the Club as her daughter is still part of the Nippers program and will be completing her SRC this coming Season.
Angela Nezval has worked quietly in the background as our part time book keeper for many years. Angela, too, is taking on more professional commitments. Her can do attitude, patience and friendly demeanor will be missed greatly by many at the Club.
