|The Bondi Surfer – Bondi Surf Life Saving Club Your update on all things Bondi Surf Club!
The Bondi Surfer No. 71
City 2 Surf Edition – 10 August 2018
Intro & Welcome
This Sunday is one of our main fundraisers. We will need some help to ensure it is a success. Please see the details below to register your name and the time you can help out.
There are often people that wish to join our Club who can’t complete their Bronze Medallion but still want to be a part of our Club. There is a membership type called Associate membership for these situations. It does cost more, but it is available for any of your family or friends that wish to join the Club who can’t be a patrolling member. Please contact the Office if you know someone who is interested.
One of our newest members, Anna Darby, has put her hand up to run the social side of the Club. I know how much everyone used to enjoy the trivia nights, the theme parties and other activities that were put on. We are looking to plan as many events as possible this year to keep you mixing and getting to know your fellow members. We need more people to assist Anna … this might be anything from running an event to just helping promote one when needed. Email Anna on email@example.com
Just over seven weeks remain until the first Patrols. This means the annual proficiency test is on, too. Every patrolling member needs to complete the session, which generally goes for a few hours and includes a run-swim-run, rescues, rescuscitation and those dreaded signals! Make sure your brush up on your skills. The dates will be published soon. It needs to be completed before 31 December. (If you hold other awards such as ARTC or Gold, you will need to complete one for these awards, too.)
See you on the beach!

It’s City2Surf weekend
The Sun Herald City 2 Surf is one of the club’s biggest fundraising days, and Fairfax media have once again hired our clubhouse as a First Aid area.
For security and patient privacy reasons this requires exclusive access. Therefore, Bondi SBLSC members will not be able to use any part of the clubhouse from 11.00am Saturday 11 August to 5.00pm Sunday 12 August. Please do not store your bags in the change rooms for race end. Access will not be possible.
Thanks for your understanding and GOOD LUCK to all our runners.
Urgently needed: You ….
This is a call to action for City to Surf BBQ duties this weekend.
We need as many volunteers as possible to help out for as long or as little as you can manage this Sunday – 12 August 2018.
Our annual City 2 Surf BBQ is a major fundraiser for the Club. From Associates to Nipper parents and every membership in between, we appeal for your loan of extra hands if you possibly can help.
We have five shifts available:
5.00-6.00am, 6.00-9.00am, 9.00am-12.00pm, 12.00-3.00pm, 3.00-5.00pm
(Set up starts on Saturday. Please email manager if you can help Saturday)
Remember, many hands lighten the load. Your contribution makes a big difference. A successful day to get our new season off to a great start.
Thank you (in advance)

Our Gym: Rule Refresher
Each day our Club gym is used by many members.
To maintain an atmosphere in which all members feel comfortable, please take a moment to remind yourself of our gym rules. In particular, gym equipment is to remain in the gym at all times. Members are not permitted to store personal equipment in the gym (or elsewhere in the Clubhouse).
1. Non-financial members and members who have not purchased gym membership are not permitted access to or use of the Gymnasium.
2. All members must wear t-shirt/singlet, shorts and shoes.
3. A towel must be used to protect floors and equipment.
4. Equipment and mats must be wiped down with the provided disinfectant after use.
5. Weights are to be replaced in racks and no equipment is to be removed from the gymnasium.
6. Damaged, broken or missing equipment should be reported to the office.
7. A child under the age of 13, whether or not a member, is not permitted access to or use of the gymnasium .
8. A member under the age of 15 years may not use the gymnasium unless accompanied by an active adult gym member.
Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in offenders having their gymnasium and/or membership privileges cancelled.
Collect your gear before Gear Inspection Day
Our annual gear inspection is fast approaching. We always use this time to spring clean and ensure all Surf Club gear (ATV, IRB, Education, FA, Patrol, Radios) is in working order, recorded, and in its proper place.
This year, it will happen on 1 September. All gear will be off limits from 4.00pm on Friday, 31 August and 11.00am on Saturday, 1 September.
Unfortunately, we do not have the space to accommodate personal items other than in the paid storage racks or by prior agreement with board and ski captains. Any non-surf club craft and equipment found during the clean up will be removed from the Club. This will include private boards stored above the surf boats and the surfboards left in front of the paid storage racks. Similarly, personal equipment is not to be stored in the changerooms or gym areas. Please collect your private craft and equipment as soon as possible
We need your interest and registration right away, so book now below!
Marketing & Sponsorship
Thanks and kudos, Harris Farms
Huge thanks and a big shout out to the team at Harris Farm!
They’ve donated all the fresh produce to the Club for our annual City 2 Surf BBQ fundraiser. Harris Farm have always been the first to put their hand up whenever we need to fundraise. They also supply goods for our weekend BBQs over the summer.
We are incredibly grateful for all their donations. Don’t forget to tell them how much we appreciate it when you pop in to our local Harris Farm store!
And it gets better…
Harris Farm have led the way recently by banning plastic bags in all their stores around Australia – what an awesome achievement – congratulations!
