Bondi Surf Race Report
Week 4- 14 October 2018
Another challenging morning, where it was touch & go. I thought back to the sixty’s & asked would the surfboat under Beachy’s sweeping got out & the answer was yes, so I decided in conjunction with the Patrol Captain, to run the race. If I was using Silent as the yard stick we would never cancel a race. It was good to see him at bottles on Sunday night & reminisce about the Junior B boat crew of 67/8.
It was great to continue to have new starters & special mention of the Oates; Tom & Jess, who I put in A Grade at go & they came in first & second respectfully. As time trailers, for their efforts, they will be off at a more respectable handicap, to reflect their amasing talent as Cadet swimmers. This allowed past Captain & R&R Champion & all-round nice guy Brook to get the honour’s ahead of younger gun Mark , with newcomer Juliann in her first season of Club racing. Due to the heavy unpredictable large waves, it was to say the least a challenging race, in warmer water, from the last few weeks.
B Grade saw a good group of Bronzes, joining in for the first time & Jana from Nippers who finished well up in the scatters competitors. Jonathon, just beat Patti up the beach & her racing with Bondi Amateur’s on a Sunday morning stood her in good stead. Lenseman extraordinaire Bruce was not that far behind & we look forward to his photos throughout the season.
Our three Cadets were all first timers & they have each been given 2 points for their efforts.
BONDI AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB – Is always looking for new members, irrespective of their ability. We can promise two things; you will improve over the season & have a lot of fun doing so. If interested, please come down by 9.15 Saturday morning & see what it is like. They also have “learn to swim classes” for any member who cannot swim & this has been extended to adults. Should you want more info, please speak to me, Raewyn or Sandra Hallam, at the races or whenever.
A big thanks to THE BLUE ROOM for their outstanding support.
