Bondi Surf Race Report

Week 8- 11 November 2018

Fellow Surfers’,

Sunday was a special day, the 100thanniversary of Armistice Day, coinciding with the Cox being run, the first of our Memorial events. If you do not know his story, next time you are in the Club, look up & see his board hanging on the wall, next to the office.

The morning was great; all that was missing was a wave. The patrol through its IRB crew had the buoys set & everything was ready to go. Our only problem was all the late starters & the fantastic response for C Grade from the Nippers. They are a fantastic group & I look forward to their becoming regulars in our great tradition. A big thanks to Tony & everyone who assisted, it made the morning so much easier.

A Grade, what can I say, he takes after his old man, if only it was true. Keiran showing all the benefits of living at the Club & being in the water all the time. Ziggy kept him honest & always puts in 100%, irrespective of his position, something more of us should strive for. Rob who is on the way to becoming a regular (which is great & will hopefully get some of his ski mates down as well) earned a well-deserved third.

B Grade saw me lead the team out & around the buoys, where upon I was buried under a sea of arms & legs. Luke was a good winner off a respectable time, closely followed by Rose, who put in a great effort. Johnathan off with a huge handicap, swam past most for third, but needed the buoys out a little further.

C Grade was the best we have seen for some time. Jana, another second-generation swimmer powered home, with John & Tom, the first of the time trials.

Next week we have the Ron Turner Memorial, I look forward to an either better turn up, for this most important competition.

Cheers

Doc
