Bondi Surf Race Report
Week 31 – 21 April 2019
Got down in time for a beautiful morning, the Shaggy Dog had brought down Easter Eggs, as had others, to bring back memories of John R’s catering of his patrol over the years, which was almost as good a Hogg’s Breath (which certainly part of the good old days).
I was honoured to be a part of the ANZAC Service, so capably run by our President Jacob. It was good to see our Patron Peter make the journey for this most important morning.
There was a wave, the sun was out & the Patrol & Ducky had everything under control.
A Grade saw John win his second race, with a good shoot, that allowed him to get bragging rights off Michael & Mark who both started off on the same wave. The recent LIGHTNING Bronze squad had their first swim & they promised to be back next week. There was a consenscious that 3 minutes 20 seconds was a good handicap for them, however, I’m sure that next season we will see them stretch such times into the four minutes.
B Grade had Gabrielle win her second race in a row & again she showed great skill in mastering the surf. Brett was not far behind with Andrew beating out the pack who was closely on his heels.
Again we saw good numbers in the Tube Race that saw some keen competition. Jacob our guiding light in this event was a casualty & saw out the completion from the side lines.
I was reminded how slack I was for not providng Easter eggs & if I can find any, I will bring them down this Sunday. I appreciate how kids get all excited over a little chocolate Martin & will do my best.
Well another season is almost over & hopefully I will see you next week for our final race on the last day of patrols for season 2018/2019. Due to the Ocean Swim we will work in with the organizers & no doubt many of you will do both. If you do not want to swim come down & help or just come down & be a part of it.
I’m blessed with all the help that get each week.Mark, Sandra (photos & grammar) &Siobhan helped & whilst I took photos in A Grade, Siobhan was our guest starter (great voice). Needless to say, these warbling would never see the light of day except for Raewyn’s expertise.
BONDI AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB – Is always looking for new members, irrespective of their ability. We can promise two things; you will improve over the season & have a lot of fun doing so. If interested, please come down by 9.15 Saturday morning & see what it is like. They also have “learn to swim classes” for any member who cannot swim & this has been extended to adults. Should you want more info, please speak to me or Sandra Hallam, at the races or whenever.
