Intro & Welcome
Last weekend, we held a memorial service for Life Member Bob Reid. The hall was packed with over 200 people to pay respect to a Member who was heavily involved in many aspects of the Club. Bob was Treasurer for nine seasons, secretary for one, vice president for one and was a strong fundraiser at a time when the club needed it most. Bob had a love for the surfboats and was known as one of the best big surf sweeps. Many of our Members who were lucky to have rowed with him said he made it look easy.
Also last weekend, we ended the Season in style with the Blue and White Ball in the Establishment ballroom in the City. Thank you to Anna and her team for a fitting end to the Season.
A few Seasons ago, we created the Bondi Blue Membership, which is provided annually to a handful of Members who have put extraordinary amounts of hours into the Club with many of them involved in multiple areas. Thank you to the following: Paul Ure, Steve Hackers, Jeremy Davis, Michael Delaney, Anna Darby, Alex Ayscough, Felicity Macarthur, Nick Nezval, Andrew Hoggett, Damon Somerfield and Pat Moore.
Coming up, we have some important dates, with Presentation Night at the Club (there will be a band) on 22 June, and also the Club’s Annual General Meeting the following month on 22 July.
See you on the beach,

Limited Club access Saturday for elections
The Australian Electoral Commission is once again using the Club as a polling station on Saturday 18 May.
There will be no Member access through the Club front entrance. Please use the wet entrance or boat shed to enter and exit the Club. This will minimise disruption and protect the integrity of the polling location.
Come down to cast your vote at the Club!
An amazing night
The inaugural Blue and White Ball was held 4 May in the Establishment Ballroom.

Good luck to the IRB racing team
For the first time in nearly 10 years, Bondi is competing in the winter NSW IRB racing premiership. This is no small commitment with all the gear, training and team commitment required to freezing once a fortnight to compete. Two weeks ago at their first competition at Stockton Beach, Bondi placed 14th out of 23 teams. Check out this video from last year’s championships to see what IRB racing is all about.
The team races again this weekend in Round 2 of the premiership series at The Lakes. Good luck to all competitors.

Winter ski paddling for 15-18 year olds
Bondi Surf Club has worked closely with Sydney Harbour Surf Club to arrange a Saturday morning and Tuesday afternoon session for our future ski paddling team members.
New paddlers can take advantage of the FREE week trial and then can use the Under30 promo code to receive 30% off all purchases. It works out at about $17 per session including ski, life jacket, paddle and coaching. If you can’t make these sessions, feel free to join any of their other sessions.
Download Sydney Harbour Surf Club’s app to book sessions and take advantage of the discount (see these instructions).
Paddling to cure juvenile diabetes
Board captains Ryan Jenkin and Jason Taylor are competing in the Molokai to O’ahu World Paddleboarding Championships in Hawaii. This 54Km paddle is known as "The channel of bones” due its formidable conditions and savage swells. Ryan, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2013, is taking on this challenge with Jason for the second time to demonstrate that Type 1 diabetes doesn’t have to control people’s lives.
Please join them in raising funds to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure.
