Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club

No Lives Lost at Bondi Beach

We posted last week that long-

We posted last week that long-term club member Peter Meyer received the devastating news that he has Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma lung cancer which has metastasised in the liver, bowel and tailbone. The club, his family and friends are rallying around to support Pete and his young family. Here is a bit of his Bondi story.

Pete is a Bondi boy through and through, growing up in Nancy Street, North Bondi and spending most of his childhood days on the golden sands of Bondi. Pete joined the Surf Club in 1990 obtaining his bronze back when you were only in a numbered not a named patrol. Pete is one of only a few people to win the Stan and Basil McDonald Relay for both Bondi and North Bondi. Winning with Bondi in 1991 and then being a part of the historical North Bondi team being in the majority of their 19 straight wins.

Pete spent his senior competition career competing for @North Bondi SLSC with one of the highlights making the Australian Open Ski Final. He decided to come home to the Club where it all started for him in 2016, rejoining Bondi Surf Club, and has been an integral part of the Bondi Masters team ever since. He has contributed significantly to the Bondi Masters, winning the State and Australian Championships pointscore over the last few years.

Anyone who has competed alongside Pete would know how much joy he brings to us all on the beach between races, he is one the most quick-witted people you would meet with his famous one liners. One of the best when he is on the line for a final of a board race or ski race he always asks ‘how many through to the next round’.

Pete has given such great service to Bondi Surf Club over the years and brought so much joy to us all. It is time for us to give something back to support him and his family during this extremely difficult period.

If you are in a position to help Pete’s family please visit the Gofundme page link below.

Any donation… no matter how small, will help relieve the family’s financial pressures and allow them to focus on what is important just now, as well as let them feel the support of the club and the wider community.
