No Lives Lost at Bondi Beach

As we prep to host the big box

As we prep to host the big boxing event out the front of the club on Sunday morning, we look back at photos from our archives of the Bondi Lifesavers who were also boxing legends.

Stan McDonald came to Bondi as a Boxer before becoming Bondi’s first beach inspector. The newspaper clipping from 1957 recognises him as the greatest of all Australian Lifesavers. He was highly awarded for his bravery and rescues, and Bondi Surf Club has named a patrol after him in his honour. His son Basil McDonald followed in his footsteps as both a boxer and a Lifesaver.

Also pictured here is Sam Lester preparing for a boxing match.
