It is with great sadness that

It is with great sadness that late last night Bondi SLSBC Long Service member Pete Meyer lost his battle with Cancer.

Pete took on the fight against cancer like he took on the surf or running the ball up in football straight, hard, and he was so brave until the end.

Pete was a Bondi boy through and through, growing up in Nancy Street North Bondi. He spent most of his childhood days on the golden sands of Bondi joining the Surf Club in 1990 when he obtained his bronze. Becoming one of the real characters of Bondi, his ability to make people laugh was second to none. Pete was an amazing athlete and surfer, with no wave too big or challenge too hard, he was one of the great ‘watermen’ of Bondi conquering every aquatic disciple. Pete, like many other Bondi members of the 80’s and 90’s, attended Waverley College where he had the honour of representing the school in 1st XV Rugby and 1sts Water Polo. Pete is one of only a few people to win the Stan and Basil McDonald Relay for both Bondi and North Bondi. Winning with Bondi in 1991 and then being a part of the historical North Bondi team competing in the majority of their 19 straight wins.

Pete spent his senior competition career competing for North Bondi making the Australian Open Ski Final and first ever mixed double ski final. We know one of Pete’s proudest sporting achievements was completing the Molokai to Ohau 52km paddle in the solo SUP division twice.

Pete decided to come home to the Club where it all started for him in 2016, rejoining Bondi, and has been an integral part of the Bondi Masters team ever since. He has contributed significantly to the Bondi Masters winning the State and Australian Championships pointscore over the last few years. Anyone who has competed alongside Pete would know how much joy he brought to all on the beach between races, he was one of the most quick witted people you would meet with his famous one liners. Pete has left a legacy that will never be forgotten both on and off the water, with his greatest legacy being Maddy, Billy and Ash.

RIP Pete Meyer, thoughts and prayers to Di, Maddy, Billy and Ash —-
