On Sunday 26 March 2023, Bondi Surf Club held its annual Bondi Blue Water Challenge. A total of 612 enthusiastic competitors entered the 2km and 4km beach runs, the 500m, 1.5km and 3km ocean swims and had nothing left in the tank when they completed their events. Many thanks to our sponsors, City Ford and Harris Farm Markets in particular. Thanks also to the Club’s dedicated and tireless volunteers who organised the event and kept everyone safe, well watered and fed. Looking forward to seeing everyone again next year. Tim Read

Welcome to the Bondi Patrol Podcast. We’ll be talking to the volunteers in and around Surf Lifesaving, to hear their stories of dedication, courage and determination.
These are stories of individuals who selflessly give their time, energy and passion to keep the beaches safe for everyone. Our core mission is to save lives, and we couldn’t do that without our amazing volunteers and an engaged and supportive community, so join us as we explore the inspiring and uplifting stories of the people who keep our beaches safe.

Today, sadly, we lower our flag to half mast to pay our respects to an active patrolling member of our club, Andrew Hoppe.
Andrew has held many roles in our club over the years, mustering enthusiasm for the annual lIfesaving parade at the Mardi Gras, organising our Higher awards program, and generally helping out wherever he could.
He will be sadly missed by the club and we will advise more details on the funeral service when available.
A big shout out to our Captain
A big shout out to our Captain of Lifesaving Nixy Krite, who was on the jetski yesterday and saved a large number of people yesterday. Her quick response, skill and experience meant that those people were going home to their families.
Well done Nixy!

Today marks 85 years since Black Sunday on Bondi Beach.
Sunday 6 February 1938 saw the largest mass rescue in 245 of 250 people saved and, unfortunately, five died when they were swept off a sand bank.
It was just after 3pm and the Club’s Sunday Surf Race was about to be run. That proved incredibly fortunate with those waiting on the sand for the race leaping into action to bring people back to shore. The incident also happened as the Club’s patrols were swapping over, so there were over 60 Bondi Surf Club members on the beach!
Today we remember the five people who lost their lives on Black Sunday and honour those who saved so many other lives.
