Harold William Pearce Mick - RIP
Harold William Pearce ' Harry' also, known as ' Mick' was an active member of the Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club form 1948 to 1959. Mick was a country boy from Dubbo, who moved to Sydney for a new life and work opportunities. He loved every aspect of the surf club and the lifetime friendships and fun times that came with being a member and a veteran member. In 1951, he gained his Instructors Certificate form the Surf Life Saving Association of Australia.
Mick represented the club in many carnivals up and down the eastern seaboard. He enjoyed marching , swimming and beach competitions , but most of all he loved being in the surf boat. Mick's position in the boat was sweep , where he guided his crew onto that ideal wave to beat and win in many competitions.
In 1959, he was the captain of number 5 patrol where he and the crew were successful in winning the Craven Shield.
Mick meet many new friends whilst being an active member of the surf club such as George Maina (dec) and Don Kennedy. The friends he made throughout his time with the club created networks and long standing friendships. He also enjoyed the get togethers at the annual December veteran luncheons and enjoyed listening and reading about the clubs updates and the progress the club was endeavouring to make throughout the years.
On the 29 November, 2015 Mick passed away aged 85 years young !
This year Mick's family will celebrate his life on Sunday 27, November, 2016 where they will farewell him on a final boat ride and swim at his beloved Bondi
