Frequently Asked Questions
Does passing the pool test guarantee entry into the course?
If you have signed up and paid for the course ahead of time, and pass the pool test your place on the course is secured. Turning up and passing the swim test if you haven’t already registered and paid, does not mean you are on the course.
Can I try the test again if I don't pass first time?
Additional swim tests are at the discretion of the training team for the course, based on the numbers in the course and the availability of trainers to run additional tests. This can’t be guaranteed but at least one additional test is normally run.
I can't make the induction and pool test - can I still join?
If you can’t make the induction day you can still join the course, however you will need to arrange with the team to complete your swim test before the first practical session.
What if I am away for part of the course?
Due to the nature of the course and the volume of content that needs to be covered we ask for at least 90% attendance - this works out to being able to miss roughly 1 theory and 1 practical session.
Please note some sessions are compulsory and if you can’t make these it is best to choose a course with different dates. Compulsory dates for each course can be found under each course listing here
If I start the course then change my mind, will my course fee be refunded?
No - Course fees are non-refundable once the course has commenced. We are happy to process a full course fee refund if you notify us and withdraw prior to the course start date.
I have held a Bronze Medallion in the past, do I need to complete the course again to become a Lifesaver at Bondi?
If you have been proficient within the past five years, you do not need to complete the full Bronze Medallion course again. Please speak with our Education team, who can arrange a skills gap analysis and an extended skills maintenance session for you.
If you have not been proficient in the past five years, you will need to complete the full course again.
Can I do the course just for fun?
No - We are a volunteer lifesaving club. All candidates are expected to join a patrol team and volunteer approx. 44 hours per season post-course.
I’m scared of sharks and ocean swimming. Can I still do the course?
No. You must be confident and capable in ocean conditions.
I already have my First Aid Qualification - do I need to do the course?
If you have a FA qualification you won’t need to do the course if:
1) The CPR component of your award is still valid for 6 months after the graduation date of the course
2) The award covers HLTAID 009, 010 and 011
Will I need a wetsuit?
It is advisable to have a wetsuit if you get cold easily, particularly if you are doing a course before Christmas when the water is colder.
