MEMBERS & FAMILIES
Raise Your Hand provides assistance to eligible members of the Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club who are suffering hardship, normally through non-refundable grants.
Some examples of the help that is available under Raise Your Hand include financial assistance for:
- Loss of employment or income.
- Essential living expenses after a family crisis such as a house fire, or unexpected death or serious illness of a loved one.
- Medical illness or injury not fully covered by Medicare or private health insurance.
Here is a list of examples that may warrant favourable consideration from the Raise Your Hand Grants Committee. This list is by no means exhaustive and if you are unsure, you should consult your Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) to enquire about assistance.
A LOSS OF EMPLOYMENT OR INCOME
Support in the form of a cash grant to assist a member in crisis who has lost their employment or income which is not directly their fault (eg: COVID-19).
DEATH OF THE SOLE INCOME EARNER IN A FAMILY
A cash grant to assist a member who has experienced the sudden illness or death of the ‘breadwinner’ without income protection/life insurance arrangements and/or inadequate personal savings to fall back on. Assistance would not be designed to meet living costs which should be provided through Government social security arrangements, but rather to prevent the member from having to cancel all of their once affordable activities.
THE SERIOUS ILLNESS OF A DEPENDANT OF A FAMILY
A cash grant to assist a member to meet that unexpected costs associated with expensive and potentially life saving medical treatment not totally covered by Medicare or the members private health insurance and/or the living/travel costs associated with the parent’s bedside vigil.
A GIFTED DEPENDANT WITH A ONCE IN A LIFETIME DEVELOPMENTAL OPPORTUNITY
A cash grant to assist a member to afford the cost of supporting a dependant who has been offered a once in a lifetime study/developmental opportunity which is beyond the extended family’s ability to pay for (eg. the cost of a return international airfare and augment living costs while overseas).
THE SERIOUS ILLNESS OF THE PARENT OF YOUNG CHILDREN
A cash grant to assist with meeting the day-care costs for one or more dependents of a member, while the normal ‘at home carer’ is spending much of each day visiting their partner in hospital.

Raise Your Hand provides assistance to eligible serving members of the Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club who are suffering hardship, normally through non-refundable grants. The amount of assistance will be determined on a case by case basis and is at the sole discretion of the Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club Board of Management.
Yes. All applications will be treated within strict privacy guidelines as per the Australian Privacy Act.
Each case will be considered on its merits. In some instances you may not be eligible for assistance from Raise Your Hand if you have received assistance from similar trusts or organisations.
Your first point of contact should be through a Member Protection Information Officer.
Yes. The Australian Tax Office has approved Raise Your Hand deductible gift recipient status. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
Yes, it is extremely safe. When transacting via our secure server, your credit card and personal details are encrypted using the latest industry standard SSL (Secure Socket Layer) 128 Bit encryption technology before being sent over the internet. Your credit card number is removed from our on-line server and is stored on a separate secure server.
All of the monies collected through public donations are reserved for benevolent purposes. There are no operating and administrative overheads deducted from your donations. However, if your donation is paid via Credit Card or PayPal, a fee of approximately 1% of the donated amount plus a per transaction fee of around 0.30 cents is paid by Raise Your Hand.
A tax deductible receipt will be issued as part of the Credit Card payment process. A receipt will be provided to each donor as soon as the financial transaction has been successfully completed.

Every member’s circumstances are unique and each application will be considered on its merits. Above is a list of examples that might warrant favourable consideration from the Raise Your Hand Grants Committee. This list is by no means exhaustive and if you are unsure, you should consult your Member Protection Information Officer to enquire about assistance.

Contact a Club Member Protection Officer in the first instance.
WHAT TIME FRAME CAN I EXPECT?
Raise Your Hand will make every effort to assist club members in a timely and compassionate manner throughout the application process. While the Raise Your Hand Grants Committee is required to consider each and every application, they will not always formally meet in person to do so. Virtual committee meetings will be convened to assess urgent cases and the outcomes of their decisions are likely to be known within days. Less urgent grant applications will normally be considered in the Raise Your Hand Grants Committee meetings.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
All applicants will be contacted and kept informed of the process and of the decision made by the Grants Committee. You may be contacted for further information in relation to your application. Successful applicants will be paid by an electronic funds transfer to your Bank Account.
For those who cannot be helped under the terms of Raise Your Hand, we will endeavour to assist by referral to another agency.
