Membership Categories
Probationary (aged 15+)
This category applies from the time a membership application is submitted until the Club allocates an official membership category. It also covers the period before the member gains a qualification such as the Bronze Medallion.
Cadet (13–15 years)
For members aged 13 to 15 who hold a Surf Rescue Certificate and meet their club responsibilities. This includes keeping their qualification current by completing the annual Skills Maintenance session.
Active (15–17 years)
For members aged 15 to 17 who either hold a Bronze Medallion or are working towards one during the current season. Members who already hold an SRC or Bronze Medallion must meet their club commitments and keep their qualification current by attending the annual Skills Maintenance session.
Active (18 years and over)
For members aged 18 and over who hold a Bronze Medallion, complete all patrol and club responsibilities, and maintain their qualification by attending the annual Skills Maintenance session.
Leave / Restricted
For Active members who hold an SRC or Bronze Medallion but require restricted duties due to extenuating circumstances. A written request must be submitted to the Club Captain and approved by the Board of Management. Approval applies to the current season only. Active and Reserve Active members who do not complete the annual Skills Maintenance session will also be moved into this category.
Reserve Active
For members who have successfully completed eight years of patrol and club service, with at least 30 recorded hours per season at Bronte SLSC or another SLSA-affiliated club. Reserve Active members may choose not to join a regular patrol roster but must complete at least 12 patrol hours each season. These hours are required to remain eligible for SLSA competition and to progress to Long Service membership after 10 years. Members who continue with a patrol team must meet all standard patrol requirements.
Long Service
For members who have successfully completed ten years of Active service followed by at least two years of Reserve Active service. Long Service members are exempt from patrol duties; however, those who choose to remain part of a patrol team must meet the full patrol requirements.
General Member (Nipper Parent)
This membership is required for every Nipper family, with at least one parent or guardian registered as a club member for each Nipper. It allows parents and guardians to assist on the beach during Nipper activities and provides SLSA insurance cover. This category is separate from Active or Water Safety membership, which applies to Bronze Medallion holders who undertake patrols or provide water safety. Membership must be renewed each year.
Associate
Available to members aged 27 and over. Associate members have full access to club facilities and, like all members, must comply with the Club’s constitution and regulations.
Life Membership
Life Membership may be awarded in recognition of distinguished service to Bronte Surf Life Saving Club. Candidates must be nominated, approved by the Board of Management and voted in at the AGM.
Honorary
Honorary membership may be granted for one year at the discretion of the Board of Management, primarily in recognition of exceptional service to Bondi. Honorary members are not entitled to vote.
