Higher Awards are split into 3 areas;
1: Public Safety:
Silver Medallion Beach Management, Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue (SMAR), Silver Medallion Beach Management, Gold Medallion.
2: First Aid:
First Aid, Advance Resuscitation (ARTC), Spinal Management
3: Training Awards:
Training Officer Cert, Assessor Cert. (Contact Nicola Watkins)
Who can do a higher award?
We highly recommend and encourage any active club member to complete higher awards, each course will have pre-requisites but all are achievable, great fun, educational and help us keen the beach safe!

Once qualified do I need to sit a higher award again to keep the qualification?
Yes and no, You can check this by going to the awards section of your online surf life saving account and looking at the expiry date for each award.

ARTC – 1 day, 2 evenings (8am-4pm, 7pm-9pm)
Spinal Management – half day (8.30am-11.30am)
First Aid – 1 day (8am-4pm)
Silver Medallion Beach Management – 3 evenings (6.30pm-9.30pm)
Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue – 400m swim trial, 2 evenings, 1 day, (8am-4pm, 7pm-9pm)
Gold Medallion – 800m swim trial, 1 morning assessment
Trainers Course – 4 evenings (6.30pm-9.30pm)
Mental Health First Aid – tbc
SMAR proficiency – to stay proficient you MUST complete a 400m swim in a pool in under 8 minutes. If you are interested in doing SMAR this year then you need to attend one of the swim trials (see poster) and complete the 400m swim and apply for the course. Participants will be selected closer to the registration date.
Gold Medallion – I will create a Gold Medallion facebook group. If you are interested in achieving the highest award in lifesaving let me know. You’ll have plenty of help with training and it’s a great excuse to get to your fittest OTB.
