Events

Life Saving competition encompasses three separate, but related, events:

Champion Life Saver (CLS) – individual

1. Components:
  1. Knowledge test (40 questions)
  2. Live patient assessment (DRSABC)
  3. Timed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  4. Beach sprint
  5. Surf (swim) race
  6. Board race
  7. Tube race with fins
2. Age divisions – U14, U15, U17, U19, Open, 30-39, 40-49 & 50+
3. Separate Male and Female divisions

First Aid (FA) – team of 2

1. First aid scenario (8 or 12 minutes), including
  1. Approach to casualties
  2. Examination and diagnosis of injuries
  3. Treatments
  4. Radio and communication to Surfcom
  5. Management of the incident
2. Age divisions – U15, U17, U19, Open
3. Mixed gender teams

Champion Patrol – team of 4 (U17) or 6 (Open)

1. Components:
  1. Knowledge test (20 questions)
  2. Surf (swim) race
  3. Board and tube rescue relay
  4. Live patient assessment (DRSABC) – 2 lifesavers
  5. Timed Team CPR with oxygen & defib – 4 lifesavers
  6. Patrol complex scenario (including IRB for Opens)
2. Age divisions – U17 & Open
3. Mixed gender teams

Competition

Bondi SBLSC sends competitors to Sydney Branch, NSW State, and Australian Championships.

The NSW State Championships is usually held at a time that allows surf sports competitors to also compete in the main Beach and Water events for their age division. Also many competitors specialise only in Life Saving Events.

Bondi Surf Club has enjoyed great success in Life Saving Events at Sydney Branch, NSW State and Australian Championships (where qualification via the State Champs is required).

Training

No experience necessary!

We train regularly at the club and no experience in surf sports competition is necessary – just enthusiasm! It’s a great way to improve your all round lifesaving knowledge and capability, as well as be part of an inclusive team!
