Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club
Commitment to Child Safety
Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club (BSBLSC) is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where every child and young person feels valued, respected and protected from harm.
The safety, welfare and wellbeing of children are paramount in everything we do. We have zero tolerance for child abuse, neglect, bullying, grooming, discrimination or any behaviour that places a child or young person at risk.
As one of Australia's oldest surf life saving clubs, we recognise the important role we play in our community and the trust placed in us by children, young people and their families. We are committed to fostering a culture where child safety is embedded in our leadership, governance, policies, decision-making and everyday activities.
BSBLSC is committed to:
- placing the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children above all other considerations;
- listening to children and young people, respecting their views and encouraging them to participate in decisions that affect them;
- creating an environment that is welcoming, inclusive and culturally safe for all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children with disability, LGBTQIA+ children and young people, and all others who may be vulnerable;
- ensuring all directors, employees, volunteers, members and contractors understand their responsibilities to protect children and uphold our Child Safe policies and Code of Conduct;
- implementing robust recruitment, screening, induction and Working With Children Check requirements in accordance with NSW legislation and Surf Life Saving policies;
- providing ongoing education and training so that everyone involved with the Club understands how to recognise, prevent and respond to concerns about child safety;
- encouraging anyone with a concern about a child's safety or wellbeing to speak up, knowing that concerns will be taken seriously, managed confidentially where appropriate, and responded to promptly;
- identifying and managing risks to children across all Club activities, facilities, programs and events; and
- continually reviewing and improving our child safe practices to ensure they reflect best practice and comply with all legislative and Surf Life Saving requirements.
Child safety is everyone's responsibility.
Every person involved with Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club is expected to uphold this commitment and contribute to an environment where children and young people are safe, respected, supported and able to enjoy all aspects of surf life saving with confidence.
